At our comedy workshops, participants will work on:

Public Speaking & Stage Presence

  • Overcoming stage fright and building confidence in front of an audience.
  • Learning voice projection, body language, timing, and movement to hold attention.
  • Practicing improvisation to respond to audience reactions.

Storytelling & Cultural Expression

  • Turning personal and community stories into compelling comedic material.
  • Using humor to explore identity, tradition, and reconciliation in a safe and respectful way.
  • Honouring oral traditions by adapting them to contemporary performance styles.

Creative Writing & Joke Construction

  • Learning the fundamentals of joke writing: setup, punchline, tags, and callbacks.
  • Experimenting with comedic formats (sketches, stand-up sets, digital skits).
  • Developing unique comedic voices rooted in Indigenous experience.

Cultural Resilience & Healing Through Humour

  • Exploring how comedy can be a tool for healing from intergenerational trauma.
  • Creating space to laugh at difficult topics while maintaining respect.
  • Strengthening community bonds by sharing Indigenous humour and perspectives.

Collaboration & Networking Skills

  • Working with other Indigenous performers to create ensemble pieces.
  • Practicing constructive feedback and collaborative brainstorming.
  • Building relationships with mentors, venues, and potential sponsors.

Media & Digital Content Skills

  • Learning to translate live comedy into social media content (shorts, reels, TikToks).
  • Developing promotional materials like posters, bios, and event descriptions.
  • Understanding how to brand yourself as an Indigenous comedian or creator.

Professional & Entrepreneurial Skills

  • How to pitch yourself or your act to event organizers, schools, and conferences.
  • Negotiating fees, contracts, and understanding the business side of comedy.
  • Learning event logistics, tour planning, and audience development.
